Preparing For A Vasectomy
When we read about what happens during the vasectomy procedure it sounds very involved and just a little bit frightening for us. However, the procedure is fairly simple and for many will take less then twenty minutes before it is all over. One of the best ways that you can make sure that the procedure goes smooth and that no problems occur is to prepare yourself for the procedure.
These instructions should be followed no matter what type of vasectomy procedure you are using. They will help to make the procedure quicker.
- Two weeks prior to the surgery you must avoid consuming any type of aspirin and other kinds of anti-inflammatory medicines. These will increase the risk that you will bleed.
- Three days prior to the surgery you must wash your scrotum with antibacterial soap. This will help to reduce the risk that you will have an infection.
- Most doctors will request that you shave the base of the penis on the front part of the scrotum. This will help them to improve their visibility. If you do not do it then the doctor might do it in their office.
- If you have one – wear an athletic supporter to the doctor’s office. Also wear clothes that are comfortable and loose fitting. You might get iodine or other chemicals on them so wear something you can get dirty.
- You need to have all the strength that you can get and be comfortable and relaxed during the surgery. The best way to do this is to make sure that you eat breakfast ahead of time.
- Arrive between thirty to fifteen minutes before your scheduled appointment. This gives you plenty of time to think about what you are doing and to prepare for it mentally.
- Make sure to have someone with you that can drive you back home when the surgery is over.
