Open Ended Vasectomy
Men have been getting a vasectomy for more than thirty years. It has always been considered a safe option for those who do not wish to have anymore children and was encouraged over a tubal ligation in women. In the traditional procedure the man would have to shave the scrotum where an incision would be made and stitches would be used to close up the area.
Now there is more than one way to do this procedure and to relieve the discomfort that is usually caused by it. The open ended vasectomy are the more common to use. During this procedure the surgeon will create a small puncture without having to shave or leave stitches to close the hole. This is similar to the no scalpel vasectomy.
The surgeon will administer a numbing agent to the scrotum so that you will not feel it when he punctures it. He will then use the puncture wound to reach the vas inside of the scrotum. From there he will tie it off and cauterize it. Many doctors will encourage patients to use this form because you will experience less discomfort and there is usually no back up pressure or pain that will last for days or weeks.
