No Scalpel Vasectomy

There are several different types of vasectomy procedures that can be used. One that is becoming increasingly popular is the no scalpel vasectomy. This is one of the more simple and gentle procedures used for people who cannot stand the sight of needles or anything potentially sharp breaking their skin. Many men will also choose it due to how quick the procedure is and how quickly they are able to recover. Most will attest to the fact that is free of pain except for soreness.

This procedure was created by Dr. Li Shunqiang in 1974. However, the procedure was not brought back to the United States until 1988 after the World Health Organization and the Access to Voluntary and Safe Contraception had studied it and deemed that it was safe and effective to use. Since that time more than 1,000,000 of the no scalpel vasectomies have been used.

True to its name there is no knife or any incision performed during this procedure. Because of this the person does not require any stitches. The hole will close almost immediately after the procedure is finished making it difficult for the men to find any signs that they had been operated on.

One of the many advantages to this procedure is that it gives men the peace of mind that they need to go through with it. When there is no cutting involved they feel safer and more confident that nothing will go wrong. During this procedure the doctor will give the patient a local anesthetic that will numb the area – but keep them awake the whole time. This anesthetic is a pressurized jet spray that is applied to the area without using any needles.

During the procedure the doctor will make one puncture through which the vas tubes are pulled through and blocked. Some doctors might cut and tie off the ends while others might burn the ends or attach metal clips to them. It is the preference of the doctor performing the surgery to decide what they will do in order to block the vas tubes.

Many studies have shown that there is a low risk of complications during the no scalpel procedure. The only downside to this is that there is still a chance that the body will heal itself or that the procedure will not be effective. This risk is decreased when you use the traditional vasectomy.
