Is A Laser Vasectomy Safe
In the world of modern medicine many of us would believe that it is possible to use laser for almost any procedure. The term laser refers to Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is not uncommon for this type of device to be used to kill off bladder tumors, overgrown prostate tissue, and kidney stones. It is also helpful in removing skin lesions and problems in the eyes.
Many people believe that if the laser can be used to help with these problems perhaps it can be used as a no scalpel vasectomy procedure. Although it is possible the problem with this is that it is not able to pass through any type of tissue without first burning a hole through it. To be effective for this operation an incision must still be made in order to access the vas deferens tubes.
One the vas tubes are exposed you could use the beam of light to burn off and separate the tube. This is such a simple procedure that it would be almost pointless and overly expensive to do. It is much easier to simply tie off or cauterize the ends of the tubes with inexpensive tools.
The only other way that you could be able to use a laser is to burn directly through the skin and onto the tubes. This approach is not safe and could cause intense damage. To do this would leave the doctor blind and unable to know for sure whether they burned the vas tubes or hit something entirely. It would also split open the sheath that is around the tubes and that contains blood vessels and nerves crosswise and causing damage to it.
Though using a laser to perform a vasectomy can happen and is used by some doctors it is not a method that we suggest people should use. It is a great deal more expensive and might make it difficult for you to have a reversal should you change your mind.
